This is so interesting, my mother was born and raised in Ellaville, Georgia. I have no idea what schools she was educated. Elunta Williams, 1933 and she died Feb.2012.
I graduated from this school in 1955. I was deeply troubled when I learned that it had been torn down and a jail placed in the site.
I had the privilege of going to this high school in 7th grade in 1967. I feel so sad that it was torn down. I’m glad to know not all cities tear down their older buildings. The character and atmosphere of these historic buildings cannot be replaced.
this looks very much like the school that i graduated from and is still in use today. the outside looks just like it did when i left for college 50 years ago. Our town restores and does not tear down. The inside of the school has changed little except now there is ac and every room has computers and teachers using huge wall computers with which to teach. But the architectuaral details remain the same including the auditorium where we had assembly and opened with a prayer. Some things that changed were not for the good of the people and leaving prayer out of schools is one of them. maybe one day we will have a supreme court to interpret this differently. the constitution says freedom of religion not freedom from religion.
