This congregation was established in 1826 and was the church home to many Washington County pioneers.
Some of the earliest settlers of the area are buried in this historic cemetery.
This fieldstone family plot enclosure is likely one of the oldest features of the cemetery, though I was unable to read any names.
The Harman headstones are the oldest in Jackson’s Baptist Cemetery.
William N. Harman (1779?- 20 March 1848)
Lucy W. Harman (1779?-September 1843)
James Rogers (1 November 1807-5 June 1860)
Julia Frances Riddle (1858-1882)

We drove by today and were stunned to see they had removed the “crenellations” and flattened the top of this entryway. They seem to be framing a roof support for more green metal roofing. It will be a simple front gable design from what I could tell. Maybe the tower top was a maintenance issue, but I loved this funky little church.
I hate to hear this. I can’t imagine why they would remove them, unless there’s a safety issue. I love this church, too, and will miss the crenellations.
