Old Brunswick City Hall, 1890

Construction of Alfred S. Eichberg’s monumental Richardsonian Romanesque Brunswick City Hall began in 1889 and the building was open for business in 1890. The clock tower was added in 1893 and features some of the most fascinating gargoyles on any building in Georgia. Today it’s been properly restored and is used as an event space.

My family’s got many ties to Brunswick. My great-grandfather sneaked onto a train in Pennsylvania in the 1930’s or so and ended up in Brunswick, where he met my great-grandmother from Homerville. They then raised my grandmother and great uncle in Brunswick. I’ve been here many times on the way to the Golden Isles.
