King’s Garage, Pitts

The roof of this building collapsed in 2016, but Zeke Best writes that it was saved and turned into a storefront for Oliver Farms known as “The Station”.

Once upon a time Pitts GA was a booming little town. My grandfather at one point owned and operated this filling station. Mr. Robert King who was a close friend of our family had a whole trunk full of old films of this tiny town. He took most of them and put them all on VHS for us. Part of which was my grandfather Mr. Harris at this filling station.

An ol’ fillin’ station where driver pulled in and an attendant actually poured the gas, checked your oil and washer fluid, and wiped your windshield while chatting about the news of the day.

It is a shame. Some of these small community towns dont bother to try to get folks to help fix things up, so sooner or later, probably sooner, they will all turn into ghost towns only.
