Walton County Courthouse, 1884, Monroe

With a twin in Sparta, the Walton County Courthouse is one of my favorites. Designed by the firm of Bruce & Morgan, it originally featured a more ornate clock tower, which was lost during a storm and replaced in 1910.

I just wondered why you did not spend more time in Monroe, GA to catalog the numerous homes, churches and buildings that date back to the late 1800s and early 1900s ?

If you need any railroad depot photos, let me know. I have a Pintrest and have phtographed most all of them I can find in GA.

Thanks Brian. A real 2d Empire beauty. As I think I posted after your posts regarding the post-fire resurrection of the twin in Sparta, this beautiful court house design was originally triplets. The 3d example in Gainesville (Hall County) was destroyed by the 1936 tornado. We should all be thankful that the people of Hancock County rose to the occasion after their court house was gutted by fire and restored her in such a fabulous fashion!
