These old workhorses get harder to find every day.
It’s so sad to see all this history disappear. The tobacco barns still hold a lot of memories for some os us.
Growing plants, picking weeds, hoeing, poisoning, topping, suckering, cropping, handing, stringing, hanging, cooking(curing), taking out, taking off, grading, packing, sheeting, selling…..all were some of the many tasks required of a tobacco farmer. My family did them all. My back still aches when I hear that word “Backer Patch”.
