Sadly, many of these historic homes in my hometown of Fort Gaines are in disrepair. Fort Gaines is part of my DNA!
Brian, I went back and looked at all your Fort Gaines photos. Brought my back memories of a brief visit there in the 80s, recalling now how mysterious and fascinating it seemed, both from the standpoint of the location and history, but also the fact that it was a cold and cloudy day in winter, lending a kind of ghostly atmosphere to the place. Sometimes timing is everything. I really would like to go back to that one town, in particular, but naturally if I’m ever out that way, I’ll revisit Plains and Americus and see what’s become of Westville after it’s northerly transplantation.
Great documentary work!
Thanks for sharing this memory. It’s a fascinating little town.
