Georgian House, 1934, Marietta

A two-story red brick house with white shutters and a green door, surrounded by neatly trimmed shrubs and a brick pathway, framed by trees in a lush green landscape.

I wasn’t able to locate a history for this house, but I love the Georgian style and couldn’t resist making a photograph. Georgian, of course, refers not to our state, but to the four British monarchs of the House of Hanover named George. And it’s also not the same as the Georgian cottage style so common in the state.

The Georgian style home is one of my favorite styles! Thanks for taking this picture.

Brian l love your posts of old times buildings. I live in Patterson GA, and loved the pics of buildings in our little town. The garage apartment you show was the first home my husband and I shared back in 1955. It’s still there today. Our city men are cutting away trees and shrubs which have overgrown a house on East Main Street which l feel sure is one of the older houses still standing here. Maybe one day you will come our way again. I would love to meet and talk with you. Diane Hyers

Thanks, Diane. I’m not too far from Patterson and will definitely be back. Glad to hear the garage apartment is still there.
