When I first photographed this site, there were three silos. I believe one was lost in October 2018, as Hurricane Michael barrelled through Donalsonville.

Donalsonville Historic District, National Register of Historic Places

This building served several purposes. According to Susan Weathersby Mann it was originally a tobacco warehouse, then Jesse Gunn’s automobile dealership, then Willis Motors, and finally Bainbridge Hardware. Gary Hodges Sullivan writes [2019]: This great building was leveled and a Dollar General built. Sad.

These two buildings on Church Street are my favorite in Mount Vernon. The red brick storefront on the left was Walter Morrison’s General Store. Neal Stanford writes: This was my grandfathers’ store, which he operated for 70 years. It closed in 1988. What great memories I have of it being open on Saturday mornings. Lisa Graham notes that the false-front building on the right was where Mr. Morrison stored his feed and seed.

It has been home to Dominique’s beauty salon for quite a few years.

This photograph dates to circa 2003. The structure was demolished by 2010.

This has been an active warehouse since at least the 1930s.

Thanks to Ronny Yawn for the identification.
