Thomas John Shingler House, 1906, Ashburn

Thomas John Shingler (1864-1934) was the brother of James Simon Shingler, for whom the neighborhood was named. Mr. Shingler gave then-adjacent land in 1907 for the future construction of the Methodist Church. I understand that this house, like most in this district, were designed by famed architect Peter Dennis, a family friend.

I assume the Worth County community between Sylvester and Ashburn along Hwy 112 and the former right of way of the GAS&C railroad was named after Mr. Shingler?

Yes that is right. DH Davis owned that land and he named the town for JS Shingler while Mr. Shingler owned some land in nw Turner County and he named a town for Davis.

Yes it is on Main street, or US Hwy 41 north, the second house back from the United Methodist Church, except it was not built by TJ Shingler, who lived out in Amboy. It was built by JB Bozeman, the manager of the Betts Evans Store in town around 1907.
