This landmark Darien home, built by Emanuel Brown and later owned by the Johnson family, recently served as the Darien River House Restaurant. Different sources give dates of construction varying from 1875-1920. Until I learn otherwise, I’m deferring to the date given in Georgia’s Natural, Archaeological, and Historic Resources Survey.

If you are referring to my relative, Emanuel Brown (married to Lucy Turner), he passed away June 22 1864 in battle at Kolbs farm. So the house must have been built prior to1879. Thanks.
Cheri- Thanks for the information on Emanuel Brown. It’s possible the house was built earlier. This date comes from National Register background information, and their dates are sometimes based on local knowledge. I’d love to explore this more, as I know this is a well-loved house in Darien.
