Tifton Telephone Company Building, 1920, Tifton

This was originally home to the Tifton Telephone Company. Later, it housed the Georgia Peanut Commission, before their move to a site beside Interstate 75 several years ago. The brickwork is some of the best in Tifton.

A quick follow-up thought. This building has a lot in common with some of the Southern Bell Telephone exchange buildings from the 20’s. Just a thought.

Further follow-up, Ben. I’ve learned it was home to Tifton Telephone Company, built 1920. Perhaps they were associated with (or “borrowed” the plans from) Southern Bell.

This is a beautifully detailed and well proportioned building Brian. It would be interesting to know the history. It is obvious it was designed by someone acquainted with the principals of classical architecture.
