I’ve been told this was once a bank but can’t confirm it at this time. I will update if I learn more.
Lott’s True Value Hardware, Broxton
This was most recently home to Lott’s True Value Hardware. I imagine it was a hardware or department store prior to that.
Ocmulgee Street, Broxton
Ocmulgee Street was once Broxton’s main commercial area. The Western Auto store was located in the second building from left (above).
Hope’s Car Wash, Broxton
This is an old garage/filling station.
Tree of Knowledge, Broxton
This is a popular gathering place in Broxton. A young lady from the neighborhood stopped by while I was photographing and noted that “Mr. Possum”, who lives adjacent to the property, keeps things clean around the tree.
Nicholls Milling Company
This business has been closed for quite some time, I believe.
Service Station, Nicholls
South Liberty Street, Nicholls
South Liberty Street is still the main commercial area of Nicholls, but many of the old landmarks have disappeared or been abandoned in the past decade.
Lone Hill United Methodist Church, Circa 1890s, Coffee County
The South Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church notes: The story is told that a circuit rider came to hold services at the site of this church and no one came, so he called it “Lone Hill”. The first building was erected on this site, in Coffee County, between 1848 and 1854…The adjacent cemetery contains the graves of the early settlers to the community. The earliest marked grave is of the infant son of Dan and Winafred Newbern born and died January 4, 1848.
The cemetery is also home to the National Champion Eastern Red Cedar.
