This was associated with the adjacent Sardis C. M. E. Church. I thought this may have been an older church building at first, but others have identified it as a school. I tend to agree it was more likely a school. It was built in the 1940s.

This farmhouse has an interesting layout and appears to have been a simple central hallway form that was later expanded.

This saddlebag tenant house is similar in style to the typically taller New England saltbox house. This is due to the shed room at the back of the house. Thanks to Carlton Henderson for the identification.

This is the headwaters area of the Ocmulgee River, below the confluence of the Yellow, South, and Alcovy Rivers and Tussahaw Creek at Lloyd Shoals Dam on Lake Jackson.

A public park owned by Georgia Power affords access to the river here, on the Jasper County side off Highway 16; if you cross the bridge (driving west) into Butts County you can access Lloyd Shoals Dam.

The American Legion was chartered in Monticello in 1931 with a small group of World War I veterans. Local Commander Ray M. Persons was instrumental in having the legion house constructed. Though not as active as it was in the past, the Legion still meets here.
