Nicholls Milling Company

This business has been closed for quite some time, I believe.

Service Station, Nicholls

South Liberty Street, Nicholls

South Liberty Street is still the main commercial area of Nicholls, but many of the old landmarks have disappeared or been abandoned in the past decade.

Kirkland House, Nicholls

This vernacular house, which I suspect may have been older than its appearance here would suggest, was torn down some time in 2012. Susan McDaniel notes that it was the home of a Mrs. Kirkland who taught school in Alma, and was well-maintained while she lived here.

Walsh House, Nicholls

This is an exceptional example of a Queen Anne Folk Victorian cottage, in which the builder created a simple form (central hallway) and added his own decorative touches.

Update: As of 2017, this house has been lost to fire.

Stone’s Oil Pump, Nicholls

Stone’s Oil Company was based in Fitzgerald. This is the only pump with their branding I’ve seen anywhere other than Fitzgerald. This was located at the Nicholls Milling Company warehouse, if memory serves me correctly.

Commercial Block, Nicholls

This commercial block has had several uses over the years. Rickey Justices writes: First it was post office, then bank, then a clothes store (The Squire Shoppe), then Ware Forest. It always had apartments upstairs.

Update: This was razed sometime around 2017.

Courson’s General Store, Nicholls

Update: As of October 2023, this is still standing but has been boarded up and the signs removed.
