The largest building in the photograph, the People’s Bank of Richland, is now home to the equally historic Stewart-Webster Journal.

Richland Hotel & Bank, 1890

This served as both a hotel and bank. Its restoration in such a small town is a wonderful example of what communities can accomplish when they prioritize their history. Chip Jones should be commended for the great work he has done at Richland Main Street.

The second weekend in November will be the 19th year that Richland has been holing their annual PigFest, which is as much about community as it is barbecue, but the barbecue. That’s just magic.

This historic Baptist church was destroyed during a tornado on 1 March 2007. Its congregation dates to 1839. Many thanks to Chip Jones, director of Richland Better Hometown, for sharing the photograph and the history.
